Ep 7: Writing a Connor Storrie Anthem & Heated Rivalry Obsessions with Tori Morgan

There is a unique kind of creative magic that happens when you fall completely down a media rabbit hole. You don’t just watch the show or read the book; you live in it. You analyze the characters, you fill your group chats with screenshots, and if you’re North Carolina-based artist and lyricist Tori Morgan, you sit down and write a brilliant, viral pop song about it.

In the latest episode of Culture Coven, host Leah sat down with Tori to unpack the story behind her hit song, Muse—an atmospheric indie-pop track that quickly became the unofficial anthem for a very specific, deeply passionate corner of the internet.

Muse Origins

If you’ve spent any time on the fandom side of TikTok recently, you’ve likely encountered the Heated Rivalry adaptation. The hockey-centered romance series has captured hearts worldwide, but it was lead actor Connor Storrie who caught Tori Morgan’s lyrical eye.

With his sharp, ethereal features, Tori noted that he looked less like a modern actor and more like an ancient Greek statue. That striking visual sparked a wave of inspiration, leading to the creation of Muse and its stand-out lyric: "Carved you from marble like only they could do."

When Leah stumbled across a fan-made edit of Connor Storrie set to Tori's track on TikTok, she had an instant "girl, same" moment. She knew she had to get the mastermind behind the song onto the podcast.

Creating a Debut EP

Tori also talked about the themes and inspiration of her upcoming Debut EP centered around the idea of “what the fates impose”. The two talk about the inspiration and references that exist in her currently released songs such as Atlantis, as well as upcoming songs like the Red, White & Royal Blue inspired song “Atlas”.

Episode References

At the beginning of the episode Leah and Tori talk about the 5SOS song teeth, and Tori mentions a video for an acoustic version. That can be found here:
